When I take a photograph with my external flash, the picture comes out dark?
The flash goes off, but when I view the picture, it's dark.
The camera is a Nikon Coolpix 8700 with a Nikon Speedlight SB-600 external flash. I may have had the flash set on manual instead of TTL. I did not have the red eye set, though. It did flash. When I turned the flash off, I got more light that with the flash on.
I've noticed this happening to me when what I'm trying to take the picture of is too far away, even if it's only a few feet. Example: I was at a wedding reception a week ago and was trying to take a picture of something on the dance floor from my seat, which was only about 10 feet away at most. Because of the lighting in the room it turned out better when I didn't use the flash.
Not sure if that's the problem you're having, but I found that depending on the distance and room lighting, that determines whether or not I use my flash.
