Why does my German anti-siphon valve shoot water when I attach an American hose?
This is maddening! I am stationed in Germay, and am just trying to water my lawn. The German stores have only plastic hose couplings that are the threaded-to-quick-disconnect variety (as are the sprinkler attachments and so on). The hoses are quite flimsy, and the water pressure will cause the fittings to come apart if I close the nozzle at the hose end when I am washing the car or something like that...so, I bought an American hose on base with standard brass threaded ends and a sprinkler for my lawn
When I attach the hose and turn on the water, the anti-siphon valve (small hole in the bottom of the spigot) shoots out water. This happens when the other end of the hose has nothing attached, so I would be surprised if it were a backpressure issue. The problem happens on two separate outdoor spigots...what am I missing?
How about that for nastalgia. German engineering that goes splat! Very rare they make something wrong!

The hemostatic system of the body prevents bleeding by regulation of the blood vessel wall, platelets and plasma proteins. When injury or trauma or disease sets in, bleeding may occur. The process is divided into primary and secondary stages of hemostasis. Primary hemostasis involves the formation of a platelet plug at the site of injury and occurs within seconds after injury occurs. This is responsible ions topping bleeding from capillaries, small arteries and small veins. Secondary hemostasis is composed of the reaction of the plasma coagulation system which results to fibrin formation and this usually takes several minutes and is important to stop bleeding in large blood vessels.
Effective hemostasis or clot formation requires platelet adhesion, granule release and platelet aggregation, and this is faster to occur when there is vasodilatation of surrounding blood vessels to facilitate vessel blood flow to the area.
